About This Build
The Big Song Shorty was built around the idea that a bass should feel instantly comfortable, resonant, and alive in the player’s hands. With its 30.5" short-scale design, this bass has an easy, relaxed feel while still delivering a full, warm voice. The semi-hollow body gives the instrument an open, responsive character, with a natural resonance you can feel as much as hear. The hidden through-neck construction adds stability and sustain while keeping the look clean and understated. It is a build that blends comfort, balance, and tone into something that feels very connected to the player. Materials and hardware are a big part of the personality of this bass. The natural wood finish keeps the focus on the grain and shape of the instrument, while the solid brass Big Song bridge and tailpiece add warmth, substance, and a tactile quality that feels different from standard off-the-shelf hardware. This build reflects what Big Song Basses is all about: short-scale instruments with a warm, round sound, a comfortable playing experience, and enough character to inspire new ideas every time you pick it up.

Big Song Basses
Batavia, Illinois, United States
Big Song Basses is a small independent shop based in Batavia, Illinois, focused exclusively on short-scale basses that sound and feel great. After building seriously for about 20 years — with a break along the way to raise a family and keep playing in bands — I’m back at the bench with a renewed focus on making basses that are comfortable, resonant, and inspiring to play.
