Big Song Basses

Big Song Basses grew out of a lifelong connection between music, craft, and the feeling of a great instrument in your hands. I grew up in a musical family, surrounded by songs, players, and instruments from an early age. Playing music was simply part of life, and I’ve been in bands for as long as I can remember. At the same time, my family had a strong tradition of craftsmanship. I was just as comfortable in the shop as I was playing music, learning how things were shaped, assembled, repaired, and made by hand. That mix of music and making has stayed with me my entire life. I started experimenting with building my own instruments when I was about five years old, and the fascination never really left. Big Song Basses is the result of that long-running passion. Today, Big Song is focused entirely on short-scale basses. I love the way they feel: comfortable, immediate, expressive, and easy to connect with. My goal is to build basses that inspire players through feel first — instruments that make you want to keep playing because they sit right against the body, respond naturally, and feel alive in your hands. I specialize in semi-hollow designs, with a focus on warmth, resonance, and a round, musical voice. I’ve also designed my own bridges and tailpieces specifically for Big Song, working with small manufacturers to have them made in solid brass. Brass has a feel and tonal quality I keep coming back to — warm, substantial, smooth, and deeply musical. Every Big Song bass is built around that idea: a bass should feel good enough to change the way you play. It should invite you in, support the song, and become something personal over time.
